So this product was decent and a great idea, but I couldn’t keep it on him. The straps kept falling down. The straps ended up getting so loose. He ended up stepping on it and ripping it within a matter of days.

Highly recommend! Works perfectly for my horse who had a serious wound on his sheath. I desperately needed to keep flies off & this is very effective. Would work well for insect dermatitis on the midline as well. Horse can drop, so he wears it 24/7. Easy to clean. I bought a couple so I could rotate & disinfect. I am grateful to have found this product!! Truly solves a real problem! (sorry, but I’m not posting a photo of this lol)

Bought this fly sheet for a horse that had bad sores from flys. It worked very well to protect sensitive areas around sheath area. I did have to sew it a few times where it ripped from getting caught on stalls, otherwise it did the job.
Beware though, it takes at least 2 people to put on. I bought extra Velcro straps to help keep it secure.
I would recommend. If easier to put on I would give it 5 stars.

Would be best for mares the sheath area is not very long and when dropped caused irritation

I read the reviews and took Vicki Nichols’ advice. I have a 16H Andalusian and got a S, which he kept getting out of or ripping. We had to take it off at night because of that – rolling in the bedding. Yesterday, I took Vicki’s advice and fixed it up as she showed in photos and specified in her review. Worked great today in turnout! He gets bad summer sores and without this slinky, the flies eat him up. Thank you, Vicki! One piece of info – we do have Lowe’s here but they didn’t have the correct Velcro product. Amazon does! VELCRO Brand 30 Inch Elastic Straps 4 Pack | Stretchable and Adjustable For Snug Fit | Fasten Outdoor Umbrellas, Wood, Tarps, Blankets, Poles, More | Cinch with Buckle, Black 30×1″ If your horse is bigger, you’ll need longer straps. Also, because he’d ripped one slinky beyond repair, i kept it for spare parts. So in this adjustment, I could keep the two crosswise straps on the croup end, and use one crosswise from the ripped slinky to keep the fore straps together. Look at Vicki’s great photos – you’ll see what i mean. We’re going to try leaving it on him overnight and I’m crossing my fingers.
Addition: It stayed on overnight!
Cashel, you need to correct the design and add one or two straps to link the front and rear straps, and another crosswise piece to attach those straps to the front straps, as you can see in Vicki’s first photo.
UPDATE: When my horse dropped to pee, the pee pocket was too short. He measures 75″, so right in-between S and M. I bought a M, and the pee pocket is much bigger, roomier and way easier and more comfortable for him to pee. Using Vicki’s advice, it still stays on him even though it looks too loose. I added one more improvement, which is another short x-wise strap (from the spare parts slinky) holding the two rear long straps together, so there are 3 altogether there now, spaced out as needed. His summer sores are almost all healed now, w/o flies being able to get on him as we can now leave the belly guard on almost 24/7, just taking it off to soak and wash the pee pocket daily. It now works brilliantly! See new photos of him in M.

Very effective against sweet itch along ridge of belly. Tried everything there is for about a year, this solved the issue (along with other treatments to heal skin).
However, due to where the velcro closures are located it is very tricky to put on and take off as this is not placed over the back – yes, you can attach the torso part first, on the back, pull around, and then do the front piece, however, if the horse moves, there is a high risk of the horse stepping on it and breaking it.
It sounds like a silly problem, it gets very annoying and time-consuming. I put on multiple horse blankets several time every day so I’m familiar with many different forms of blankets – this is great, but not its fasteners. Looking elsewhere or making my own. However: Fret not, this is very effective for helping a horse suffering from sweet itch, phew.

I really wanted these to work! Purchase 2, one for each of my mares and both were lost in the first 8 hours, still haven’t found 1 out in my field. They do not stay on! I had them adjusted really well and thought they would last but nope. A complete waste of money, sadly. Ended up buying Horsewear brand fly sheets with belly guards and they’ve worked amazing!

Do NOT recommend for horses in pasture. I tried this on three different geldings and within hours it had fallen down their booty and gotten tangled in their hind legs. I’m not usually big on writing bad reviews but this product really didn’t work but of course was damaged beyond being able to return it right out of the gate. I wish I had a better option for tummy protection.

One of our mares gets chewed up by flies every summer. They attack her belly relentlessly and rather than keep a flysheet on 24/7, I wanted something that she could wear at night when there were fewer flies out to give her some relief from having the fly sheet on all the time. At first this seemed the perfect solution, but then the Velcro closures started to give way and ultimately the straps that go over the withers and croup also began to get flimsy. We tied some soft fabric from the front straps to the back to help keep it on, but ultimately, the product just couldn’t stand up to nightly use and we found it hanging off our mare and realized it couldn’t be used again.
Good concept, but not sturdy enough for nightly use during fly season.

Grateful for this belly sheet as my horse had surgery to remove a melanoma in his urethra. We’re in CA and have horrendous flies in the summer. This works amazingly well keeping them off his sheath. I had to make a couple additional straps to help secure it as it would buldge on the sides or slip down his back legs which is very dangerous. I took pictures for others to try. I used velcro I got off Amazon to help secure it in place. I have a Lusitano who can be very reactive and this works great for him.
