These are such a disappointment! They are filled with synthetic (plastic) pillow stuffing and not anything like cotton. The birds won’t use it. They have pulled on the stuffing a few times then left without taking any. The ball I hung out in January is still completely full in April. It’s useless and a waste of money. I’m so disappointed with the way the sellers were willing to lie about their product. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised, but I always am.

Well, the hummingbirds might be using it, don’t truly know. The house finches that are nesting right now, were taking nesting material out of these globes as the momma bird is getting ready to lay eggs in a little house in neighbors backyard behind our house, we can watch them as they nest. We have seen them flying to the globe and pecking what they want out. Highly recommend.
Glad the nesting material is readily available for the birds.

Honestly I purchased these and didn’t see the hummingbird part. They are tiny. I haven’t seen any birds using them this spring and I use to own a larger one that they did use! I like to refill mine with alpaca hair. I still have them out just in case. Good price! Look nice!

I have been purchasing these balls for 4 years and hanging from my front yard trees. Until 2024, the balls were filled with a natural, raw cotton that the birds (hummingbirds, finches, titmouses, sparrows, to name a few) seemed to like as the balls were completely empty by the end of the nesting year (about July-August). In February 2024, I purchased the balls for the year. The balls were only 4″ radius rather than 6″ as in the past and not much room for birds to get cotton out. I thought the size was a problem as there were no birds taking the material. Purchased 2 more balls, 6″ size, and added these to the trees. Still no bird activity. At that time I realized that the balls – all 4 for the year – were now filled with a synthetic material that is hard to pull out of the balls. So I pulled some out with a bent paper clip and it was hard to do. So even with some material pulled out, the birds still shunned the material. So beware when purchasing these nesting balls as they might not be filled with natural raw cotton but a synthetic material that the birds do not like.

Almost empty already. Put up near our feeders (hummingbird, seed, and suet) and the birds seem to have enjoyed it and are using it. Last year even a cute birdhouse we put up as more of a decoration as it was under our patio, ended up as a nest! I feel good for having the nice nesting materials for my little birdie couples.
