This item arrived packaged in a plastic zipper bag to protect it during transit. This is a nice, lightweight, quilted fabric cape with what looks like coconut buttons. The fabric is soft, but with enough thickness to offer protection for your clothing. I was also very pleased that, as a woman with wide shoulders, that this cape still fit comfortably and offered adequate coverage. The buttons are easy to work and close securely. The fabric also washes up nicely, although the tag and washing instructions are completely in Chinese (and on an outside seam instead of an inner one?). Overall, I’m satisfied with this cape, although I do think the price is a little high.

I got this shoulder protector because using a big throw towel to keep my clothes clean when my parrot is on my shoulder was annoying. This protector solves that problem perfectly; now I can easily walk around and do tasks without having to constantly adjust a towel. However, I have two issues that keep it from being five stars. First, the buttons it uses are the type you have to push through a gap, which is frustrating and a pain to fasten and unfasten—I wish they had used practical metal snap buttons instead, as those would be much faster. Second, the fabric feels pretty thin. My bird loves to chew on things, and I worry about how long this thin material will actually last against his gnawing, so hopefully it holds up.

I used to wonder why parrot owners bothered with shoulder protectors—droppings are just part of bird ownership, right? Then along came Sir Archibald III, my newest Quaker parrot, who apparently has a stage-50 clinger personality and insists on living on my shoulder all day.
This protector has been a lifesaver. It makes cleanup easy, protects clothing, and is surprisingly comfortable to wear. It honestly feels like draping myself in a small quilt rather than wearing something stiff or awkward. Reusable, practical, and very bird-parent approved.
And even more important? Archie loves it. He even gets excited when he sees me grab it because he knows he’s about to get his snuggle on. 💚

I like this cape for my parrots favorite perch ( my shoulder lol). The material is thick and the seams are sewn well with no loose threads. Works well for it’s intended purpose, haven’t had a mess yet so i cant speak to that aspect. I mainly got it for the talons anyway. I knocked off a star as I think the price is a little high for what you get. Still it’s well made.

This is a great way to keep clothes clean while playing with the birds! It actually functions as intended, and is easily cleaned off. I would not necessarily call it a bird diaper though as they do have that actual product and it’s for the bird to wear-not the human lol. This a replacement for a small kitchen towel that I usually drape over my shoulder. My birds 💩 turds are smaller than a tiny pea, and usually don’t stick to anything so I don’t worry too much about ruining my clothes. I have seen some bigger avian species that the owners would have definitely benefited from protecting clothing before handling. The “bird diaper” is rather thin and has no inner plastic sheet or waterproofing protection but it is capable of helping absorb some of droppings depending on size/wetness. It is comparable to having an extra shirt on that has a couple layers of fabric to it. It’s easier to toss on & button up than dressing & undressing every time. My birds love to play & feel my shirts collar & stitching and was a fun new shirt to check out for them. They didn’t get any toenails caught, even though it’s soft & cotton like materials. The quilted texture was pretty and helped this look much nicer than a kitchen towel. Birds do like to poke holes in fabric, atleast mine do-and they love trying to take apart seams..so at close thirty bucks I can’t say the price is economical over the other available options. I do think it’s overpriced mainly because it’s on the thinner side and isn’t actually lined for any protection. Having said that, it works for my case because I don’t really need it thicker and would not want extra clothing on as I run hot & have heat flashes often. It’s pretty though, has cute buttons and is almost like a shawl that’s operates as a bird diaper!

First, no you will not win any fashion contests wearing this anti-talon, anti-poop bird cape; However, if you would like to protect your shoulder from talon digs or your back from bird poop, this mini cape is your best bet. Although it is a bit thinnish, it is quilted and offers helpful padding.
I have a blue and gold macaw and while I am good about keeping his nails trimmed, his talons often tend to dig into my shoulder – enough to leave red marks on it. This cape does an excellent job at protecting my shoulder from his nails. This means that this cape would also provide excellent protection against the talons of smaller birds.
As for poop protection from a bird the size of a macaw, I am unsure. My hunch is that it would catch most of the poop down the back but it really depends on your birds positioning. If my big bird happens to poop on me while I am wearing this protector, I will update my review and indicate whether this cape fully captured the poop or not. Since bigger macaws’ butts hang further out than little birds, I am not certain where poop would fall. It seems like smaller birds’ poop would be thoroughly captured by the cape.
The second I place the cape over my head, my bird raises his talon, his way of telling me he wants me to pick him up. I believe the cushy comfort of the quilted materials provides his feet with some comfort as well. He tends to be drawn to the buttons so I typically have to distract him with something else. I guess a velcro front would be a better solution.
Sine I received this cape, never once have I picked up my macaw without wearing it. Not only does it make my shoulder feel more comfortable, it provides my bird with comparable comfort on his feet as well. I should have gotten this years ago!
