After using this for several months I can safely say that this is by far the nicest basking area I’ve been able to find without going DIY. The mesh top is perfect for a good lighting setup. Installation was super easy and my turtle loves it. I installed this on a 40 gallon breeder and it covers about half the tank. I also ordered an acrylic sheet, and lid top handle with adhesive to use as a lid for the other side of the tank. I used a hacksaw to cut off the back corners of that sheet to make room for my canister filter hoses. Overall I am really impressed with the setup. It being above the tank allows for more real estate to decorate the aquarium because the water level is so high. My musk turtle uses it pretty frequently too. I see him up there basking maybe once every other week, which is a lot for a musk. I will say I elected to not use the thumb screws on the side though because I prefer to take the whole thing off if I need in there. Maybe those are necessary for a larger / heavier turtle? My only suggestion for the company is to maybe offer a custom lid option that fits 40’s and 75’s because if you want to have your tank enclosed, you’re basically forced to do something similar to what I did.

I’m really happy with this purchase. After reading reviews on some other brands, I found a common complaint was that the unit was too small or didn’t support the turtle’s weight. This one is super solid and was really easy to assemble. Instructions were clear and set even included extra bolts and screws. Pat (the turtle) easily fit through the opening to the loft and the ramp is plenty sturdy for him. It’s such a pleasure seeing him swim around in a full tank ( instead of having the tank half full when he had a basking platform inside the tank.) It took him a couple days to get the hang of the new environment. I put food on the ramp and in the loft to give him the right motivation to check it out. A week later, he’s happily basking in his roomy new loft whenever he wants or freely swimming around in his newly enlarged watery world. Note that I added some aqua turf to cover the floor of the loft. It’s held securely in place by the side panels and ramp hardware so no need to glue anything.

To be honest, as a rule I almost never buy anything from Amazon that has less than 2k reviews, so buying this with 17 reviews is pretty out of character for me and I was on the lookout for anything wrong… So here’s my review:
Now to set expectations, I just received this and will update in a few weeks/months but so far, I love this!
The build quality seems really good! You do have to put it together and the instructions are somewhat lacking but it’s not hard to put everything together just by looking at the picture. Just don’t tighten the screws too tight (acrylic or metal) before you have everything connected and fit together, and even then, no need to crank them down, everything is stable and fits well. The acrylic base has holes and grooves for the sides machined out so everything fits together very well and the acrylic pieces came with the protective plastic on which was a plus (I didn’t remove all of them just yet, only those I needed to put them together). The acrylic sides slide into pre-cut groves for the corners which was a nice plus. This seems like it will be easy to disassemble and flat pack if you needed to as well.
It also comes with LOTS of spare screws, another big plus. This fits fine on top of my 29T tank and you can use the screws to tighten the topper to the sides of the tank but so far I don’t know I will need them.
I think this will be much better than the other turtle tank topper (I think by exo-terra? it has a black bottom and a clear dome top with a small mesh opening) as I used that for a while but it was just so big and clunky and hard to clean and the clear top was super flimsy.
The one thing I am concerned about, as with all turtle equipment, is how will it stand up to the UV light from the basking lamp. As it’s acrylic it should be okay but if anything changes I will update.
So far, less than 24 hours in, it has exceeded my expectations and I definitely recommend!

I came here immediately after building this. As an animal professional, I feel this was very well made! The instructions are minimal but if you pull all the pieces out you will see that it’s easy to construct. The plexiglass it’s thick and will hold up to my Large RES (turtle). All the holes are the same size so every screw fits. This is wonderful because they allow to you choose what color or material you want to use. I used the plastic on the inside (in reverse) so the turtle has less to scrape against when she enters. All the plexiglass is covered with a protective sheet to prevent scratching so you have a beautifully clear case. I however left the outerside of the walls covered. It makes the box translucent box so it will be a cozy and private “cave”. The steps are good for nails to climb up but I still plan to cover them with soft shelf liners so she doesn’t scrape the bottom of her shell when she slides into the water. It’s cheap, comes in many colors and and be cut to fit any shape.
I couldn’t be more pleased with the outcome and the price for this is spot on! It’s an excellent buy and I’m looking forward to installing it to my 55 gallon tank (48″×13″). My RES at last measure was 6x6x7 and alittle over 1/2 pound. She manages to clear the opening to her cave This should be the easiest part of her tank to keep clean! I have not tested it’s heat resistance yet as I usually use a 100w heat lamp. I suggest because this is an enclosed space, to use either 50 or 75w bulb (The walls of the box do not have vents. Imo, the designer might add that feature to improve on this. Otherwise, it’s perfect. I’m sure this will be a long lasting item!

It was easy to set up but there was a slight scratch crack in the ramp. Which is the reason for 4 stars instead of 5. Other than that no complaints. Our turtle loves it. She outgrew her other one and this one is more stable.

I had to order this after another since the first one had chipped ramp ridges and posed a danger to my turts.
I sent it back and ordered a new one and it looks great.
Film – i kept it on just because i want to give my turtles a little privacy but i will eventually peel it off the base top and under since it is building up waste in the corners.
Size – because my turts tank is smaller than what the basking area requires i’ve had to put half the backing of the basking area off the tank to avoid the turts smacking their noses off the tank when they slide down the basking ramp.
It is enough for me to put my medium size whole hand in, twist my wrists around without my hand touching any areas without spreading my fingers out.
Thickness – about 4/5mm thickness of acrylic panels front, back and sides. Base looks thicker by 5/6mm a 1mm thicker.
Spacious – enough to hold my two turtles. Very sturdy & strong. The stickiness of it would be greater if you put silicone or pvc trim seal around the lip of the tank (allowing your air pipes and wires access under the basking area) so it can hold the basking area without moving too much. I’ve had no issues with it so far as it’s easy to clean and with the film still intact on it it gives off a glowing look from the lighting system. Hopefully i will be getting the Large one when i get a level up in enclosure for the turts.
Very strong compared to the normal acrylic basking areas which usually break easily or crack but this one will take a bit of force for you to break once its up. It’s built to last until the turt/ tort either grows or have reached its growth so it’ll last a whole human life.
My observation of my turts were when they saw this basking area they avoided it at all cost until they realised its here to stay, so i put duckweed, and placed their food in it to get them used too it. Now they deny the old basking area.
I will be purchasing one more of these before i purchase the bigger one.
[UPDATE] Monday 23rd February 2026
I placed an order for the new version of the same basking area, as you can see in the video. The only difference is the smash/fall gaurd to prevent your turts from accidentally falling, bashing, getting sandwhiched or deliberately escaping your tank setup. I am happy about this new part being added as i have an escape artist on my hand and she’s willing to do anything just to see me up close lol
I do however wish we could have the double open access arch way with ramps for a 2 tank setup as i am heavily realiant on my turts need to be around eachother. Of course it’ll have to be slightly bigger than this one i had purchased since about a quarter of the tank has an inbuilt area for the ramp itself. Still my setup looks amazing with both the old and new basking areas which i purchased from Lyl Leyouland.
5/5 As i have seen they are improving and looking for new safe ways to keep out turts safe.

Das Produkt ist sehr hochwertig verarbeitet und ist sehr gut verpackt. Ich war absolut positiv überrascht. Das zusammenbauen ging einfach und schnell. Das einzig negative ist die Leiter. Die ist viel zu glatt und meine Schildkröte ist immer wieder abgerutscht und konnte diese nicht bewältigen. Ich habe den Bodenteil mit zugeschnittenen natürlichen Filz ausgelegt, welcher auch die gesamte Leiter bedeckt. Der Filz ist nur auf der Leiter nass und zieht sich nicht komplett mit Wasser voll. Im Sonnenplatz habe ich Korkplatten auf den Filz gelegt. Jetzt passt es für meine Schildkröte. Bei dem Preis hätte es für die Leiter eine bessere Lösung geben können. Ggf. Eine Art rutschfeste Beschichtung mit irgendeinem Profil.
