I recently took back the family cat as he was stressed at my sister’s after she had a baby. She tried everything, but he was hiding all the time and just not happy anymore, so I took him back. He’s 17 years old, so his jumping up on the counter days easily are over.
It has been great having him back (and he is MUCH happier), except for one thing. My dog is a black belt level expert in getting into cat food. She’s only 30lbs, but has short legs and is very agile. My sister bought the “Sweet Barks Nightstand Pet House, Litter Box Furniture Indoor Pet Crate, Litter Box Enclosure, Cat Washroom, Box Cover White.” It was easy to assemble, and on the first day of having his food in there, my dog didn’t get into it.
Unfortunately after a couple days she discovered she could fit her head through the hole, and it was shallow enough where she could pull on the food mat and reach the food.
I tried putting a suitcase in front of the feeder, thinking that would block her entrance and make it harder to reach. Nope, she easily jumped over it and angled her body so she could get into it.
I decided to move his food to the closet, and block the door partially shut with the suitcase. She quickly discovered she could push the suitcase and get to his food.
I wanted to get a pet gate with a cat hole, but they do not make 24″ long pet gates that would work for a closet door.
We were at our wits end, and then I saw this product as I was browsing through things on Amazon. I didn’t think it would work, but figured at only $13 that it was worth the risk, as our only other option was to have a pet gate custom built.
It arrived the day after ordering, and I made my boyfriend install it, as I was worried about messing it up. (I don’t have the best track record with installing command strips). He installed it in only a couple minutes!
My dog tried digging and pushing her way through, but alas, she was FINALLY defeated! I woke up and cautiously opened the closet, worried that I’d find his food 100% gone. Nope, his food was still in the bowls. She can get her head in, but that’s it! She has stopped trying since the first night.
I love how easy it is to unlatch the hook so the door is easy to open as well.
This product was a godsend. So unbelievably happy with it.
I’m sure a much larger dog would be able to bulldoze their way through, but since she is only 30lbs and not running towards it, it has held easily against her efforts.

I had gotten one of the Latch straps for another door in the house and it worked great. I tried their plastic door latch extension, but because the path you walked into the room at, you could get snagged on it. So I bought another one of the Latch straps and it works great! Nice feel, the hook is easy to latch and unlatch, and it looks nice.

This is a really great product. It’s so simple, easy to install, and works exactly how you’d hope. This company has two versions of the door buddy:
1. This strap version, which just sticks to the door and frame with strong adhesive. So it requires no tools at all to install, just takes a minute or two, and seems to hold very well. It can be removed without any damage. It does require you to lift and replace the latch each time you use the door. That means you have to remember to relatch it every time (and you have to trust other family members to relatch it…kids, husband, etc.). But, it also means you can fully close the door whenever you need to.
2. The is a more rigid, plastic version as well. This one is also very easy to install. My six-year-old wanted to do it, so I let her, and she was able to install it easily (and had fun doing it). You just use a screwdriver to remove the door plate. Then you replace it with this product. Done. Now you can open and close the door with the doorknob just like you’d use any door. This one is very convenient because you don’t have to remember to relatch anything (or trust anyone else in the house to remember). You just use the door as normal. The downside here is that you cannot close the door fully while this is installed.
So, I have both versions of the product. Right now, I have an adult cat and a new kitten. I also have a dog, who likes to get into the litterbox, if given the chance (yuck). The cat’s litterbox is in the laundry room. I have the rigid version on the laundry room door. It works great.
When we added the kitten, we made a little space for her in the guest bathroom with her own litterbox in there. I bought the soft strap version. I don’t love having to reattach it each time, but I needed to be able to fully close the bathroom door sometimes (so it can be a usable bathroom for humans, and also so I can sometimes close the kitten in there to keep her safe while we’re gone).
Anyway, I’m just really glad this product exists. It’s such a simple, affordable device that solved a very practical problem.

It holds well and keeps my delinquent dog from stealing the cat food. The only caveat is that cats can accidentally lock themselves in the room if they push the door closed. So if you use this, you’ll want to somehow block the door from fully closing.

I’ve had this four years and when I moved house, I took off the adhesive. It came with and replaced it with a very strong double sided tape and now I’m using it in the new house. It’s fantastic!
I actually used it simply to keep the door from opening all the way and letting too much light into the bedroom because it disturbs my sleep. Perfect as the cat could Come and go at he pleased.
Today I have purchased a second one. We moved into an old house and the doors don’t all latch. We have a new kitten we’re integrating into our home and so we need to keep doors closed while they get to know each other’s scents. We are actually using this to keep the doors 99% closed and the cats safely separated.
You will not regret purchasing this. There may be a child proof version that would be less expensive but we are able to use this in the middle of the night when it’s dark and we are half asleep getting up and going to the restroom it is so easy to pop in and out as it’s just a little hook.

The Door Buddy Pet Door Latch for Cats (Grey) has been absolutely perfect for our basement door setup. We needed a way to keep the dog out of the litter box area, but adding a gate at the top of the stairs would have made carrying laundry up and down really dangerous. This was such a smart and simple solution.
It allows the door to stay cracked just enough for the cats to slip through, while keeping the dog out. And let’s be honest — kitties hate closed doors! This gives them the freedom they want while still maintaining separation where we need it.
I especially love that you can easily lift the latch up to open the door normally. It’s quick and convenient when we need full access. Another thoughtful touch is that it includes instructions for removing the adhesive if needed, which gave me extra confidence installing it.
Overall, it’s easy to use, effective, and much safer than a gate in our situation. Highly recommend for multi-pet households!

Nach ein paar Problemen mit dem Versand (hier reagierte Amazon aber nach dem Anruf prompt und wir bekamen den Door Buddy zwei Tage später geliefert) haben wir unseren Door Buddy installiert und ich muss sagen, es ist genau das, was wir brauchten. Wir benötigen den Door Buddy, um unsere Insektenschutztür zum Garten so zu sichern, dass unsere (reinen Haus-) Katzen nicht in den Garten kommen. Die Türe hat zwar einen Magneten, der sie zuhält, kann aber von gewitzten Vierbeinern an einer bestimmten Stelle aufgedrückt werden oder geht auch auf, wenn sie im Spiel dagegen donnern. Daher musste ich mir etwas einfallen lassen, um die Türe zu sichern. Der Door Buddy hilft dabei enorm. Ich habe zwei davon in der Mitte und unten installiert und nun hält die Türe auch, wenn jemand dagegen drückt, denn sie schnappt sofort in den Magnet zurück, wenn sie aufgemacht wird. Der Door Buddy ist gut durchdacht. Man kann ihn verstellen und man befestigt ihn ähnlich, wie die Tesa Power Strips – das heißt nämlich auch, dass man ihn wieder ablösen kann. Es sind zwei extra Strips dabei, so dass man die Position auch wieder verändern kann. Das Klebeband hält meiner Meinung nach wirklich gut, so wie halt Power Strips auch. Ich gebe gerne 5 Sterne für das Produkt.
