In the hot weather when flies are the worst, so many masks either quickly develop sharp pointy strands which poke the horse, or they come with soft coloured fake fur which is extremely hot, or they are stiff, or the worst (shutter) are the latex masks. (Try wearing a latex bodysuit and the heat sometime.)
My horses would regularly shed their masks because of discomfort.
Not so with this one. I gulped and spent the extra money because it looked like it might work better. And it does!
The mask material is soft and flexible. No pokey bits after some use.
The area around the ears is a thin, soft flexible material like what a woman would enjoy in a bra. Stretchy. Lightweight.
The Velcro is very strong. I have to admit that I have to get a good grip on it to separate it. But then, that’s what you want so the horse doesn’t immediately remove it.
These things got through the wash beautifully. I have to say that I use cold water wash and cold water rinse, and I do not put it in a dryer!
It dries very nicely and quickly simply hung up.
I was so delighted with this that I bought a second one for our other horse.

I really love the quality and fit of this mask. my horse has a big head lol and it fits him well. he is very very rough on his masks, so we will see how this holds up for him and update. the light color is nice and the brown trim is very soft. he has worn it for two days now and hasn’t pulled it off yet like he usually would.
Update 5/10/25 : after about a month of wearing daily he did manage to put a hole in the side of it, but as said – he is very, very rough on his masks. the small hole is nothing for him and isn’t affecting the mask at all. he usually pulls his masks off all the time, this one he has only pulled off once so far. still keeping my 5 stars, he has usually done worse by now lol

Fits my Horse very well with his large QTR head and jaw line. The color does help with deterring the flies from congregating around his face. Soft comfortable material. I’m actually considering purchasing this fly masks with the nose attachment to protect from Florida’s UV rays on his sensitive nose.

Nice mask, fit my big headed horse. Was hoping it was a little longer over muzzle but is okay. Love the velcro strap, it has a cover over flap so my horse is unable to rub it open on fence or a post so stays secure. Face mesh is thick and sturdy, top mesh (near ears) is softer and can easily be torn, he’s already put a small hole in it. Hopefully will last him the summer? Easy to put on, decent price. Overall ok, like that it doesn’t lay on the eyes like some do.

My gypsy horse gelding developed a facial wound that started looking awful. He would rub the spot and the other fly masks I had laid across the very spot I was trying to heal. I bought 4 of these 3 with no ears and 1 with the ears and long nose cover. He fits in the large size and thanks to the way these Velcro, he can’t get them off. Finally after 2 months of fighting, he has almost healed. I wish there was an option for ear covers without the nose cover as well because that one is a tiny bit long on him, but at this point I have nothing bad to say. They are good sturdy masks that have been a lifesaver and I appreciate the cooler netting since we are in Houston. (Blech this summer he-t). If I think to do it, I will get a video or at least a photo I can come back and add to this post.
